Rome’s Visual Gems: Top 5 Shooting Locations For Captivating Storytelling

What would be the top five places to shoot in Rome?

Explore the vibrant tapestry of Rome’s diverse landscapes through this article, which takes you on a visual journey to some of the city’s hidden gems and iconic landmarks.

Orange Garden

Well, one of the prime locations is the Orange Garden, situated atop the Aventine Hill. From there, you get a breathtaking view of many of the city’s major landmarks. With some skilful framing, you can make these landmarks appear close together, creating a visually striking scene. The Orange Garden is a fantastic spot for shooting, and the best part is, you can do so without requiring a permit. While it may be listed as a location needing permission, it’s sometimes possible to capture shots discreetly, although it’s generally advisable to secure the necessary permits to avoid potential issues with law enforcement.

Another remarkable filming location with an amazing view of Rome is Pincio, located atop Pincian Hill in Villa Borghese Park. This spot offers a romantic atmosphere during the day and stunning vistas. Using a compressed lens, we have filmed scenes with the iconic landmarks and people strolling in the background during twilight, making it one of the most beautiful places in Rome.

For those interested in filming around the Vatican, particularly Via della Conciliazione leading to St. Peter’s Square, obtaining a permit is crucial. Filming inside the Vatican itself is not permitted, but you can capture shots outside the fence with the proper authorization. Via Conciliazione is a significant street leading to St. Peter’s Square, which is on Vatican land.

Trastevere District

If you’re looking for a mediaeval-style setting, the Trastevere District is popular and touristy, yet it has charming narrow alleys, vibrant flower-adorned spaces, and well-maintained buildings that resemble a picturesque painting. Despite the cliche, this area remains sought after, offering the possibility of finding quieter alleys for a unique filming experience.

Spanish Steps

Lastly, the iconic Spanish Steps in Piazza di Spagna is a must-visit location. While it may be considered a bit clichéd, it remains an essential part of Rome’s charm that every visitor expects to see.
