Wim – A Key Producer For Us Tells Us About His Top 3 Filming Destinations In Amsterdam

What would be your top three destinations in Amsterdam and why?

Canal Area & Dam Square

Well, of course, we have the canal area, which is very well-known. Dam Square is also a hot spot that I really enjoy, making it one of my top three favourite areas.

Vondel Park & The Museum Quarter

Additionally, there are other tourist attractions like Vondel park and the Museum Quarter, which I find very appealing.

Harbor of Amsterdam

Another place I’m fond of is the Harbor of Amsterdam. It’s interesting to see big companies with their own facilities, like my client, who deals with shipping materials. They transport stones from quarries in Norway or Scotland to Amsterdam, and from there, distribute these materials to the building industry all over the country. The Harbor area plays a significant role in processing raw materials for various industries such as roads and construction.

How is shooting in Amsterdam deeper than anywhere else in the world?

Well, the thing is, everything in Amsterdam is relatively close by. You can easily explore the entire city by bicycle, reaching every part with ease. Surprisingly, sometimes biking can be quicker than driving a car. On the other hand, when I travel to Brussels or when you’re in London, it takes around one and a half hours to commute between different areas. Brussels, being larger and more congested, often faces traffic jams, especially towards the city centre, making it more challenging to reach locations on time for filming or other purposes. This means you must allocate an extra hour for commuting through Brussels.

However, in Amsterdam, everything is conveniently nearby, making it a pleasant experience. While Amsterdam is undoubtedly a world-renowned city, it has a unique charm different from cities like Brussels, London, or Paris. It feels more like a big, interconnected avenue, rather than an overwhelming and sprawling metropolis. This compactness and accessibility add to the appeal of Amsterdam, making it a truly enjoyable and manageable city to explore.
