Location factfile on Bangladesh
At a glance: The most crowed country in the world may be the ideal place for any portrait photographer. Bustling Dhaka is a city on the up. Capital of Bangladesh and home to more than 15 million people, making it the ninth biggest city on earth. Dynamic Dhaka is a growing commercial and logistical hub and an increasing number of filmmakers are tapping into the rhythm of the city. It’s no easy to believe it but if you go away from the noise of Dhaka you can take coloured pictures of lush rural hills, archaeological sites, long beaches and massive rivers. In Bangladesh, the most important annual events are mainly national or religious celebrations although, in the last years, there is no shortage of business or entertainment events. For instance, The Dhaka World Music Festival is an international music festival about local folk, traditional music and contemporary world music across the world and it has been held in Dhaka every year since 2011. Best time to visit or/and shoot October to February. Curiosities about Bangladesh: Shamim Shorif Susom is a Bangladeshi pilot that shoots amazing aerial photos of his country. It’s worth visiting his website to enjoy unbelievable views captured from the sky. Some films shot in the country: The Last Thakur (2008) is a British film about a man who wants to take revenge on the person who raped his mother during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Meghe Dhaka Tara: despite being released in 2012 almost all of this film is in black and white.
