Popular Xians Annual Festivals and Celebrations.
Chinese New Year is one of the most important annual festivals celebrated in Xian. It’s also known as Spring Festival or Lunar New Year. On this day, people from all over the world visit Xian to celebrate the festival with traditional customs, such as setting off fireworks, eating dumplings, exchanging red envelopes filled with money and wishing each other good luck for the coming year. During this time period, you can experience many activities such as visiting temples to pray for a prosperous new year, participating in lion dances and dragon boat races at local parks and going shopping at night markets.
Dragon Boat Festival.
The Dragon Boat Festival is another popular celebration in Xian held on the fifth day of May every year during which locals race dragon boats along rivers or lakes in honor of Qu Yuan (a famous poet). People decorate their boats with colorful flags and fierce dragons that symbolize strength and power while paddling them in unison to create an impressive sight for spectators on shoreline banks. A variety of activities are organized during this festival such as folk music performances, art exhibitions and food stalls offering delicious snacks like zongzi (glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves). You may also take part in some fun competitions like tug-of-war or egg painting.
Mid-Autumn Festival.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is considered one of China’s most important celebrations because it falls around harvest season when families gather together after months apart due to work commitments or study abroad programs. This special occasion usually takes place on August 15th according to the lunar calendar but varies slightly each year depending on location within China – however its date generally falls between mid-September and early October in Xian City area instead! During this holiday period there will be plenty of entertainment.
