How do I maintain control of a photo project when working internationally?

Answer: It all comes down to planning and coordination. It’s essential to brief the crew clearly as well as local contacts who will be involved. Then it’s a question of either being on location or delegating to a producer or indeed attending the shoot remotely to ensure that all shots get shot.

Why use local photographers in Fiji?

Answer: The four E’s make using locals unbeatable:

1 – Economy – Plane tickets and per diems cost a lot of money! If people don’t have to travel you can easily save at least USD 1000 per person on a one day shoot when you’ve taken into account flights, hotels, food and transfers.
2 – Environment – Big firms increasingly need to report on their environmental impacts, and travel is By far the biggest driver of emissions on a shoot. For instance, not travelling one crew member to New York from London would save 1000kg in carbon. That’s 11% of the average person’s annual carbon footprint.
3 – Efficiency – If you don’t need to travel people, you don’t need to plan for travel time. That is pretty obvious, but the implications are immense. For instance, you may well be able do a shoot in Shanghai tomorrow if you let us know today at 0500 EST or 0900 GMT. Until someone brings back supersonic air travel that’s hard to beat.
4 – Expertise (local) – This one is intangible, often overlooked but can be the difference between a long slog, and a happy fun shoot. our local crew can suggest shooting locations, and warn you off making decisions that make no sense from where they are based. They know about local security and logistics. They can liaise with locals for you and save a lot of bother as a a result. If you’re nice, they might also be able to collect you from your hotel and share a few laughs over a beer post-shoot! Our people are the nicest, too.

What should international teams know before planning photography in Fiji?

Answer: Successful productions benefit from careful planning, reliable local support and an understanding of local logistics. International teams often use local production partners to assist with coordination, access and practical arrangements.
