Our service is consistent because we have a rigorous 30 point checklist and vetting process to ensure we ‘ll give you the best crew for your project. How can I get assistance if I need it?
You are never left to solve a problem alone when you work with us, we work with you as a member of your extended team. Uncovering Egypts Festive Celebrations
The ancient Egyptians had many festivals and celebrations that were a central part of their society. Some of the most well-known include the following:
The Festival of Opet: This festival was held annually in Thebes and celebrated the rebirth of the sun god, Amun. During the festival, a sacred barque (boat) would carry a statue of Amun from his temple at Karnak to Luxor Temple. This journey symbolized Amun’s journey through the underworld.
The Feast of Sokar: This festival was held in honor of Sokar, the god of the underworld. It was held every year in Memphis and included processions, music, dancing, and feasting.
The Festival of Hathor: This popular festival was held annually in Dendera and honored Hathor, the goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. The festival lasted for seven days and included music, dancing, and feasting. Participants would also wear masks representing animals or birds.
The Festival of Bastet: This festival was held every year in Bubastis and honored Bastet, the cat goddess. It was a very popular festival that included music, dancing, feasting, and procession of statues of Bastet.
Modern Holidays and Celebrations in Egypt
Although the ancient festivals and celebrations are no longer held, there are still many holidays and celebrations that are enjoyed by Egyptians today. Some of the most popular include the following:
Ramadan: This Islamic holiday is observed by Muslims worldwide and lasts for 30 days. During this time, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and spend time praying and reading the Quran. At the end of Ramadan, there is a three-day celebration called Eid al-Fitr.
Coptic Christmas: This holiday is celebrated by Egypt’s Coptic Christian community on January 7th. It marks the day that Jesus was born and includes church services, feasting, and gift giving.
Eid al-Adha: This Islamic holiday is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and lasts for four days. It commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son at God’s command. During the holiday, Muslims slaughter an animal (usually a sheep or goat) and share the meat with family, friends, and the poor.
